The bird flu virus can be eradicated with a high street hand cleanser, so scientists claim.
Tests have proved that No-Germs is able to eliminate 99.8% of the H5N1 strain of flu in about 30 seconds.
This strain has led to the deaths of more than 100 people around the world since 2003.
Pharmacies, supermarkets and grocers have been selling the £2.99 pump-pack spray for more than a year.
As it is used without water, rinsing is not necessary. It is alcohol free as well which is considered to render it more effective.
The No-Germs spray was develoepd to fight MRSA, as the most infamous superbugs in the National Health Service.
The tests at Queen Mary's School of Medicine and Dentistry in London indicated that No-Germs significantly cuts the risk of 'indirect transmission' of the bird flu virus, i.e., when a virus is picked up from a surface like a door handle or railing and transferred to the face.
80% of all major bacterial and viral infections are spread like this, by hand-to-mouth and nose-to-eye contact, as we touch our faces about every five minutes.
At present, H5N1 can only be caught through direct contact with infected birds. However, this could change dramatically over the course of time.
