A Good Marriage is Great For Health

Fri, 11 Aug 2006

A happy marriage helps sustain your health, doctors recently confirmed.

A new study highlights that married couples enjoy healthier and happier lives than those of single people.

Previous studies suggest that a solid marriage adds five years to a person's life.

Latest American research shows a stable and surviving marriage closely relates to a longer life expectancy.

Those who go live without marrying are more likely to die young.

People who are divorced, widowed or separated are more prone to die early.

Doctors from the University of California affirm that men who don't marry are more vulnerable than women who are single throughout their life.

Plus bachelors aged 19-44 are more than twice as likely to die than married males of that age.

Unmarried adults are more likely to die early than those married.

Social isolation risks early death.

Not surprisingly, old age as well as poor health are main causes of death, yet a good, surviving marriage is strongly associated with long life.

The study, published in the British Medical Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, discovered that for the younger age group, the main causes of death among those who had never married were infectious disease such as HIV.

Among the middle aged and elderly, the main causes were heart disease and long-term illnesses.
