David Gilmour and Roger Waters Pay Tribute To Barrett

Thu, 13 Jul 2006

David Gilmour and Roger Waters paid tribute to their friend and ex- Pink Floyd band member Syd Barrett, who passed away on Friday at the age of 60.

Gilmour started in the band in January 1968, replacing Barrett as the lead vocalist once Syd had suffered a Lsd related breakdown. Gilmour urged fans to listen to Barrett's songs and acknowledge the gift he has left behind.

Gilmour stated that all the band members were very sad at the news that Syd had passed.

He was described as a madcap genius who made the band smile with his fantastic songs about gnomes, scarecrows and bikes .

Sadly his career was tragically short. Nonetheless, he touched the hearts of people more so than he knew.

Roger Waters, Pink Floyd bassist, also stated that it is very sad.

Syd was a great guy and a fabulous talent. He has left behind a touching body of work which is very deep and will shine on forever.
