FCUK as a controversial logo has not been enough to sell fashion .
Yesterday, French Connection, after 30 years in business, issued another profit warning.
2004 saw the fashion chain make £38m profit. However, in 2006 this is likely to be just £5m. So why is its founder, chief exec and chairman, Stephen Marks, not getting it right? Yet so many rivals have got it right New Look, Gap, H&M, Zara and Miss Selfridge.
Well the shop windows do the company no favours. They are boring and black at a time of the year when shop windows are full of crisp light or dazzling colours.
The inside of the shops is not exciting either. Say Top Shop has a buzz, whereas, French Connectionn has dreary tables with umpteen garments on them.
The quality of the clothes leaves a lot to be desired. Fashionwear it looks like, yet it feels like polyester . There are tops with bracelet sleeves, shirt dresses and city shorts, yet the quality is dreadful.
And the prices are extortionate! Cropped skinny jeans sell for £75 and a t-shirt for £40.
French Connection could certainly do with a rehaul, a fashion and price revamp.
