Herception, the breast cancer drug, is nearer to getting a licence in the UK for early-stage patients, having won European approval.
This drug has caused great legal controversy, having received a positive recommendation from the committee of the European Medicines Agency.
The Agency is likely to issue a licence for the use of the drug use in the EU in the near future. Then it is likely to be fast tracked in in England and Wales.
Herceptin is able to reduce the risk of cancer returning by up to 50% in early-stage sufferers.
This drug has brought about controversy as it has brought about a 'post-code lottery' for treatment. Primary Care Trust states that early-breast cancer patients are eligible for the drug, whilst others just grant funding for "exceptional cases".
