Bridget Jones ' big knickers did Marks &Spencer a world of good.
Sales of 'fuller' pants went up 60% as women dashed off to buy something to hold everything in. The chain is launching a new underwear range in August that promises to add some luxury into the lingerie range.
No longer have you the tanned big knickers and old fashioned nightwear. You now have feminine frills, silk sleepwear and lacy balcony bras in midnight blue and chocolate brown.
The new designer range, Autograph, started out as a women's clothing range, and it has expanded into shoes, beauty products and accessories.
It is also adding stockings, tights and nightwear to its collection.
The ranges use washable satins and silks, priced at £12-£16 for knickers and £25-£35 for bras .
This collection is to replace lines by designers like Agent Provocateur .
To begin with the range is to feature in 50 stores. If it is successful it will be introduced in all stores later on in the year.
This new range comes after an announcement that the High Street giant is going to spend £600million on a total makeover after a 35% increase in profits.
Many stores are already being rebranded Your M&S on the back of the immensely successful marketing campaign featuring models like Twiggy and Laura Bailey.
The revamp has brought in 350,000 extra shoppers a week, making £751m profit in the last financial year for this 122 year old giant.
