Benefits of Colour Therapy

Red is an energising and dynamic colour, associated with vitality, ambition, sexuality and passion.

Too much red can cause irritability and anger. Therefore red can be warm and loving but also vicious and dangerous. Don’t make the mistake of wearing red and black together as that says danger beware! Red light is considered to help treat skin problems, bladder infections and anaemia.

Blue is a cool and calming colour associated with intellect and healing. Blue inspires mental control, clarity and creativity. Its effects include lowering blood pressure and lowering levels of respiration. Research has shown that when disruptive children were placed in blue classrooms, their aggressive behaviour decreased dramatically.

More interestingly, suicide rates halved when the colour of bridges in London was switched from black to blue. However too much blue can be just too cool – perhaps cold. Blue light can be used to treat ulcer pain, inflammatory disorders and back problems.

Green is the most restful colour to the eye, requiring no adjustment of the retina to focus on it, hence why nature is predominantly green. It creates a feeling of comfort, relaxation, calmness and space. It reduces stress and balances and soothes emotions. It helps anyone suffering from anxiety and depression. Green light is considered to have beneficial effects on people with heart ailments and cancer. Too much green can cause feelings of envy, resentment and possessiveness!

Yellow is a happy, bright and uplifting colour. It is associated with happiness, joy, optimism and self-esteem. It stimulates the mind and promotes self-expression. Yellow is also an energising colour. It can help relieve depression and improve memory. Hence, many highlighters are in that vibrant yellow! Dull yellow can be the colour of cowardice! Yellow light is considered to have positive effects for those suffering from muscle cramps and gallstones.

Violet is a calming colour and signifies inner growth. Its effects includes decreasing appetites, making for a peaceful environment, and is very good for those suffering from headaches.

Pink is also a calming colour and assists spiritual growth. Its soothing qualities are out to good use in for relaxation and removal of tension.

Orange is a great energising colour. It is also a colour that signifies growth and spirituality. It can be used to increase appetite and stimulate the digestive system. Orange light is considered to have benefits for those suffering from allergies and constipation
