Clothes Still Being Made For Hourglass Figures

Mon, 24 Apr 2006

Many women us can be left empty handed even after hours of shopping .

And what is that due to? Fashion designers and clothes manufacturers are making clothes for the hourglass figure, popular in the 1950s, yet not an applicable shape for the modern women.

Most women are spoon or pear-shaped; the woman's hips a minimum two inches larger than their bust, as per Hollywood celebrity Jennifer Lopez . Yet the clothing industry takes the Marilyn Monroe hourglass figure as its blueprint, despite the fact that only 6% women today are in that category.

According to Alva Products, mannequin designers, 70% of British ages 18-30 are spoon or pear-shaped.

A further 31% are rectangular, that is, there is little difference between bust , waist and hips.

Experts studied women's body shapes whilst they were shopping on Regent Street. They x-rayed them using the Intellifit System, the first body scanner capable of acquiring accurate body measurements with the person fully clothed.
