The Christmas party season is nearly upon us. Many women will be teetering home by themselves soon after the office party after having had a few too many drinks . Some will find themselves vulnerable to attack.
Living with Confidence has been designed to combat crime against women . Chubb (in partnership with the Met Police) offers the following tips to stay safe a Christmas:
1) Have a plan to get home when you are out. Should you order a taxi at a noisy club, ensure you do so somewhere where strangers are not able to overhear your address.
2) Know your limit when it comes to drink. Should you get drunk too quickly, you are at greater risk.
3) Ensure you do not accept a drink from a stranger under any circumstances. It may be spiked.
4) Ensure you do not accept cigarette from a stranger either. Cigarette spiking is also a growing phenomenon.
5) Do not leave your drinks unattended and ensure that you watch them being served. Choose your drinks carefully as a bottled beer is more difficult to spike than many other drinks.
6) Do not panic should you unexpectedly get drunk. Ask a friend to get you home.
7) Do not go home with someone you have just met. If you have to let someone know precisely where you are going and be aware on the journey there.
8) Avoid wearing very high-heeled shoes if possible. You are less likely to be able to run away from a dangerous situation.
9) Do not carry everything in your handbag . The less your handbag contents are in value, the less your desire to hang onto it and aggravate any situation should you be attacked.
10) Do just use licensed taxis as they are licensed by the police or local council, and the drivers are checked regularly.
Fear of crime should not prevent your enjoyment of Christmas. Yet it is advisable to be cautious.
