It is Certainly A Heatwave

Mon, 03 Jul 2006

Older people have been warned to keep themselves indoors as we have the hottest weather of 2006.

We are certainly having a heatwave! Temperatures are set to hit 90f (32c) today, at 91f (33c) tomorrow as we experience a warm front sweeping in from the Mediterranean .

Sun bathers must be loving it. However, the Government has issued an alert, as very old as well as very young people and those chronically ill are especially in danger of suffering from heat exhaustion and dehydration, so the Department of Health said.

It is advisable to stay in door for the hottest part of the day and to drink water or fruit juice regularly, as opposed to tea, coffee or alcohol, which can make dehydration worse.

British beaches are all clogged up with sun worshippers, with Brighton as well as other popular resorts having barely an inch of sand spare.

The hottest day is forecast as tomorrow.

Wimbledon is also affected, with a ballgirl collapsing of dehydration.

If you have symptoms of heat exhaustion like headaches, nausea, dizziness, and vomiting, have a cool shower and drink plenty of cold water.

Get in touch with your doctor if you have any concerns.

This heatwave is likely to last till thursday, when temperatures are to cool down and rain is forecast by end of the week.

This will be a relief to us all as well as water companies in the middle of the drought in the South-East.

About 2,000 Britons actually died in the heatwave in 2003.
