e-women gives looks at what's on offer in Dublin

Dublin is the exciting and cultural capital of the Republic of Ireland, famous for music, literature and Guinness. Dublin offers women a host of attractions from shopping to golf, and museums to pubs; this city will keep you busy if you want it or totally relaxed if you don't!

Getting to Dublin is easy; there are regular return ferries from Holyhead (Wales) to Dublin and Dun Laoghaire (six miles from city centre), so it easy to drive. Depending on the type of ferry it takes between 99 minutes and 3 hours. It is also extremely easy and relatively cheap to fly to Dublin from almost every UK airport.

Dublin is a very historical city which dates all the way back to 988AD. There are many historical sites well worth a visit, including; Áras an Uachtaráin (the residence of the President of Ireland), Christ Church Cathedral (founded in 1030), Dublin Castle, Custom House, Government Buildings and many more. There are also many museums and galleries including the Natural History Museum and The National Gallery of Ireland.

If you are a woman and enjoy sport Dublin offers some fantastic golf courses; over 50 all within an hour of the city. Also catch a rugby match at Landsdowne Road or an all Ireland Gaelic match at Croke Park. A day at the races "Irish style" cannot be missed either!

Like most big European cities Dublin offers women an excellent shopping experience. The lively city centre hosts many department stores and boutiques along with the usual high street fashion outlets. Just out of town there are some huge, modern shopping malls providing even greater choice.

Dublin possesses a very cosmopolitan range of restaurants serving food from all over the world. While there you must try some of the local, traditional foods such as smoked salmon on soda bread, mussels & stout and Irish stew. Dublin is also famous for its pubs so why don't you relax with a few drinks in one of the several hundred pubs and bars in the city.

For accommodation Dublin offers a great range of hotels and guesthouses from luxurious, five star, castle hotels to intimate, period guesthouses. Wherever you go you will be met with great service and welcoming, friendly people.
